ABOUT ST LEONARD'S, SHERFIELD-ON-LODDON

St Leonard's church has always had a place in the heart of the community. Being actively involved in village and community life is an important part of our mission.  Just as Jesus took practical steps to love, help, heal and support all he embraced, so we too try to organise ourselves to make sure our help is relevant and useful in today's changing world. By following Jesus's example to love and help your neighbour, so we hope to make a positive difference within our village and community.

The Ministry Team in Sherfield have worked hard to establish a firm foundation for these Christian communities, based on strong, methodical Biblical teaching in the churches, prayer and regular nurture through Home Groups and active discipleship.

Children

‘Messy church’ is held at the Community Centre in Sherfield Park on a Friday afternoon once a month for young children each month.  Lots of craft, worship and tea for the children!  All are very welcome!

Care & Prayer

An ‘In Touch’ care program has also been set up for the congregation. A Prayer Chain operates regularly by email

Community

St Leonard's contributes to the whole community by helping to publish the Loddon Valley Link magazine

Bramley Primary School, which also serves Sherfield, is a Church of England foundation (Voluntary Controlled).  Thanks to a supportive Head Teacher, the clergy of both Sherfield and Bramley regularly conduct assemblies there, as well as having some Involvement with two other local schools.  Plans are in preparation to introduce “Open the Book”, a weekly Bible story read and acted by adults for the school children at assembly.

St Leonard’s also supports Helen Burningham, a Church Mission Society mission worker in Uganda. We also support the Honeycombe Hub, a family centre in Gaborone run by a previous member of the congregation. It provides a friendly place where everyone is welcome, particularly supporting pregnant women, new parents and growing families.

Other Christian charities are supported on an ad hoc basis.

St Leonard's is proud to be a Fair Trade Church.
