Weddings
Congratulations!
It’s great that you are thinking about getting married in church: we believe God has given human beings the gift of marriage so that a man and a woman can be united physically, mentally and spiritually. One author says this: “God’s mathematics" are strange and beautiful, because when it comes to marriage (and sex for that matter), one plus one equals one.

Marriage provides a safe, stable environment for real enjoyment and commitment to each other and to children, if and when they come along. So as a church, we very much want to encourage you in your wish to get married in church.
There are some legal considerations we have to mention, if you are to be married at St Leonard's:
-
You need to be living in the parish of Sherfield-on-Loddon itself, or at least to have lived here for at least 6 months at some time in the past, or to have parents living in Sherfield-on-Loddon (there are also several other possible “qualifying connections”, e.g. being baptised in St Leonard's).
OR
-
If you live somewhere else, and don’t qualify on any other grounds, you need to attend St Leonard's on a regular basis (say, at least twice a month) for a period of at least 6 months and to join the electoral roll, the list of members of the church.

If either of you have been married before, this is not a barrier to a church marriage and will need to be discussed with the Vicar.
We also offer a service of prayer and dedication for those brides and grooms who are married in a civil ceremony at the Registry Office.
We will help to prepare you for your wedding and for the years of marriage that lie ahead of you and of course you will get lots of help in putting together your wedding service and choosing hymns and readings for it.
